Though we don’t know what tomorrow holds, we do know who holds tomorrow.
DOCTOR ED NEWTON • CBC LEAD PASTORMy name is Genaro Solis Rivero. I’m a graphic designer and educator currently teaching in the Department of Art & Art History at Baylor University. My journey in design began in 2002 at Equilibrio in Mexico City, and over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a range of creative and leadership roles.
I co-founded Contrasto Group, a studio focused on editorial design and corporate marketing, and later earned my M.F.A. in Communication Design from Texas State University. In 2012, I launched Genaro Design, a boutique branding agency in San Antonio. Since 2020, I’ve been part of the Legacy79 team, where I contribute to branding and strategy as part of a collaborative, creative group.
My interest in cause-based organizations and passion for meaningful, human-centered design are deeply tied to my personal convictions. I began volunteering with Shriners Hospitals for Children in the late ’90s, and that experience sparked a lifelong commitment to using design as a force for good.
Throughout my career, I’ve collaborated with both national and international nonprofits and businesses to help them communicate their missions more effectively. Some of this work has been recognized by organizations such as the American Advertising Federation, Graphis Press, and LogoLounge—but what matters most to me is the impact design can have when it’s thoughtful, inclusive, and human-centered.
Teaching is one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. I’m grateful to share what I love with students and to help them grow into confident, curious designers.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, grilling, and discovering new cuisine experiences—espresso is a daily ritual. I love exploring different cultures, and Toledo, Spain, holds a special place in my heart. I’m a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan with a soft spot for the Denver Broncos since I love horses and horseback riding. I’m also a member of Community Bible Church in San Antonio and enjoy contemporary Christian music.
At home, I’m happiest spending time with my wife, our two boys, and our Australian Labradoodle, Red. Summers often take us to Cancún, where sailing has become a favorite family tradition.
An experience that changed my life forever.
I learn that graphic design is not art and concept is king.
The day I became a design award addict.
I got my masters, but I did not want to teach.

Many people believe that great designers get great clients. It’s the other way around.
